Surface Preparation

The Key to a Successful Coating Application

Achieving a long-lasting and durable floor coating requires proper surface preparation. At EpoX Floor Coatings, we understand the importance of thorough surface preparation to ensure optimal adhesion and a flawless finish. Our expert team follows industry-leading practices and uses state-of-the-art equipment to prepare your surfaces, setting the foundation for a successful coating application.

Why Surface Preparation Matters

Enhanced Adhesion

The adhesion between the substrate and the coating is crucial for the longevity and performance of your floor. Proper surface preparation removes contaminants, such as dirt, oils, chemicals, and previous coatings, that can hinder adhesion. By creating a clean and properly profiled surface, we maximize the bond between the substrate and the coating, ensuring superior adhesion.

Removal of Imperfections

Surfaces can have imperfections like cracks, chips, or unevenness that need to be addressed before applying a coating. Surface preparation allows us to repair these imperfections, creating a smooth and uniform substrate. This step ensures that the coating can be applied evenly and seamlessly, resulting in a visually appealing and structurally sound finish.

Contaminant Removal

Dust, moisture, and other contaminants can compromise the performance and appearance of your floor coating. Through thorough surface preparation, we eliminate these contaminants, ensuring a clean and pristine surface. This clean environment minimizes the risk of coating defects and ensures that the applied coating adheres properly, providing optimal protection and aesthetics.

Longevity of the Coating

Proper surface preparation is essential for the longevity of your floor coating. By removing existing coatings, contaminants, and imperfections, we create an ideal surface for the new coating to adhere to. This promotes long-term durability and prevents issues like peeling, chipping, or premature coating failure. With our comprehensive surface preparation process, your floor coating will withstand the test of time.

Our Surface Preparation Process

Step 1

The first thing we do for every job is grind the floor using a diamond bit grinder. Grinding the floor is the most important step in the process. This ensures a proper bond between the coating and the concrete by opening the pores of the concrete, allowing the coating to soak into the floor rather than laying on top. This will also expose any cracks or imperfections in the concrete that may have been covered up by a previous coating

Step 2

After the crew is done grinding, they will patch those cracks and imperfections using various products depending on the need. Once these are patched, the floor is fully prepped and ready for the coating.

Step 3

After the floor is prepped, the product is mixed and the crew begins to lay it on the floor. Before that is dry, they will begin to broadcast the flake into the floor until it has the consistency that you choose. Once they are done broadcasting the flake into the floor, they will lay a clear coat of product over the floor to encapsulate the flake between coats and create a long lasting and durable product

Inspection and Verification

Before proceeding with the coating application, we conduct a thorough inspection to ensure that the surface preparation meets our high standards. We verify that the surface is clean, repaired, and properly profiled, ready for the coating application.
